Channel 4 & E4: Schedule Status & Listings 12th December 2024 to 10th January 2025 |
Channel 4 are now in Christmas mode. They are airing festive episodes of the show in the usual 6:30pm weekday slot this week, and there are a significant number of bonus morning episodes once the holidays begin on Saturday 21st. Pre-Christmas, those are all-seasonal, all the time; after Christmas, they're home to season 25. Meanwhile, the evening slot takes a break from Monday 23rd through to the New Year - and there's not a single episode scheduled, daytime or otherwise, between the 29th and 3rd. The festive broadcasts in full:
There's no outing for "Grift of the Magi", "Simpsons Christmas Stories", or "Holidays of Future Passed"; it's possible their rights to those seasons have quietly elapsed, though they don't appear on Sky either. "I Won't Be Home for Christmas" moves from Sky to C4 on January 1, as best as I can tell, but doesn't appear on either channel. There's also no "The Way of the Dog", though their rights to that season have certainly not elapsed yet. Maybe they don't consider that episode (or "Gone Boy") festive enough. The New Year starts off quietly on Channel 4 with weekend episodes only, continuing season 25. Nothing on weekdays at all.. which turns out to be because the regular 6:30pm weekday slot moves from Channel 4 to E4 from Monday January 6th.. and what's more, we're getting extra episodes too, as there are also double-bills from 8pm each weekday! A big surprise indeed. It's a shame to see the show's presence on Channel 4's flagship channel diminished, but overall, viewers are getting more Simpsons, so it's hard to complain too much. We get season 11 in the 6:30pm slot, and season 23 in the 8pm hour. In celebration of the move, the movie also gets an outing on the channel on Sunday 5th. As I mentioned above, this looks like a permanent or semi-permanent move; time will tell. The show remains on Channel 4 during weekend daytimes, with the usual hodgepodge of episodes on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and Sunday lunchtimes. Unfortunately, despite these developments, there is still no word on the terrestrial premiere of season 32, which will now be two months later than expected at a minimum.. but it is on the way. In the meantime, friend of the page Christopher Wickham has some preview commentary on what C4 may or may not cut from their broadcasts when they eventually get to the season. Episodes starting between midnight and 5am are listed as part of the previous day's schedule, similar to most print TV guides. Note that all episodes that air on Channel 4 are simulcast on Channel 4 HD and can be viewed one hour later on their timeshift service, Channel 4 +1. |

RTÉ2: Schedule Status & Listings 12th December 2024 to 10th January 2025 |
RTÉ2 are currently airing selections from seasons 25 and 31 in the usual 4:30pm weekday slot. There's also a sometimes a bonus spot in the early evening on a random day here or there. Over Christmas, it looks like the show will be taking a break from its usual slot, pausing from Monday 23rd December and then returning to the regular schedule on New Year's Day with season 26. But there are a few bones thrown to Simpsons fans, with a bonus episode here or there, including a couple of festive outings:
Come the New Year, it's primarily season 26 in that regular weekday slot. As with C4, there's no word yet on when season 32 might premiere. And, as usual, some episodes are skipped due to content concerns. |

Sky Showcase have switched to Christmas mode as of the 16th December. Unfortunately, The Simpsons doesn't figure as prominently as it typically does, with Sky showing fewer episodes of the show than it has at any other point this year - an average of just over two episodes a day between the 16th and Christmas Day. On some weekdays it's just a solo 5pm spot. Nevertheless, the episodes they do show during that period are looking to be almost entirely festive - here's the full Christmas episode breakdown:
Kinda light in terms of variety. Well, C4 and RTE have the lion's share of the show's Christmas episodes this year. From those seasons Sky do have the rights to, there's no outing for "The Nightmare After Krustmas"; it's possible their rights to that season have quietly lapsed, though it doesn't appear on C4 either. "I Won't Be Home for Christmas" moves from Sky to C4 on January 1, as best as I can tell, but doesn't appear on either channel this Christmas. And the two season 32 Christmas episodes, "A Springfield Summer Christmas for Christmas" and "Manger Things", don't show here - but as C4 and RTE have still not premiered that run, they don't appear there, either. After Christmas, the season 33 run continues, and while evening slots are hit and miss, there are a lot of bonus daytime slots, home to two separate runs of the season at various times of the morning, afternoon and early evening. Season 34 follows, and season 15 after that, as the show's scheduling returns to normality from Monday, January 6th: four episodes a weeknight, from 5pm to 6pm and then 7pm to 8pm. (The US Office occupies the 6pm hour.) Weekends remain less predictable, typically home to six or more episodes throughout the day. As always, some episodes deemed unsuitable for daytime broadcast are skipped, and some episodes don't get a second run depending on Sky's weekend schedule. No word yet on season 36, which started recently in the US - it'll likely be a January start here. Episodes starting between midnight and 5am are listed as part of the previous day's schedule, similar to most print TV guides. |
